The annual salary is 36.100 € per year before taxes and includes health insurance. In addition, there is a single 3.000€ relocation grant and an annual budget for travel and training support.

The Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA) offers a three-year Post-doctoral COFUND grant in the area of agent-based simulation of socio-cognitive systems.

The COFUND programme, a part of the Horizon 2020 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions programme, aims to motivate regional, national and international programmes that foster excellence in the training, mobility and professional improvement of researchers. With this overall objective, COFUND co-finances initiatives that work towards the incorporation of researchers, with a strong international and intersectoral component.

The applicant is expected to contribute to the development of conceptual and technological foundations for agent-based simulation of socio-cognitive systems (i.e., systems where the interplay between the behaviour of the individuals and their social context is the key feature).

We are interested in the development of a conceptual framework that can help the designer of a social simulation to fill the gap that exists between the micro level (agent architectures and local interactions) and the macro level (the sociological phenomena one tries to understand with that simulation) in terms of social constructs and social structures.

In very broad terms, work is organized around two research dimensions: the conceptual modelling and the technological implementation.

• Along the first dimension, there are three main tasks:
i. the conceptual model for socio-cognitive agents (social and rational skills and capabilities) and
ii. the conceptual model for the social environment (individuals, groups, organisations, normative elements, values, an so on),
iii. the conceptual model for the simulation platform (model of the sociological phenomenon, scenario specification, experimental support system).
• The technological dimension implements the results of the conceptual models.
• These tasks are guided by a use case on norm-governed activities.
