The AIHUB Connection is CSIC's network of centers that brings together the CSIC research staff dedicated to AI. The objective is to collaborate in research, training, transfer and communication activities. AIHUB brings together almost 400 researchers from more than 70 research groups from 35 centers that apply AI in areas as diverse as physics, microelectronics or philosophy. AIHUB is coordinated by Carles Sierra (IIIA) and Carme Torras (IRI).
The Artificial Intelligence Research Alliance of Catalonia (AIRA) is the Catalan Government's alliance that aims at promoting "scientific research, the management of talent and the acceleration of the development of solutions based on artificial intelligence in Catalonia". AIRA is promoted by the Department of the Vice-Presidency and Digital and Territorial Policies and the Department of Research and Universities within the framework of the Artificial Intelligence Strategy of Catalonia (CATALONIA.AI). Alongside IIIA, the alliance also includes the Computer Vision Center Consortium (CVC); the Barcelona Supercomputing Center - National Supercomputing Center (BSC); the Institute of Robotics and Industrial Informatics (IIRI) and the Intelligent Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Research Center (IDEAl-UPC).
The Associació Catalana d'Intel·ligència Artificial (ACIA) is a non profit association for the advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Catalan society. Its main goal is to support communication between the persons and the organisations involved in AI and promote social, cultural, scientific, economic and governmental awareness on AI.
Several members of the IIIA are members of the ACIA and some of them have served as its president. ACIA organises every year the International Conference of the Catalan Association for Artificial Intelligence.
The European Association for Artificial Intelligence EurAI (formerly ECCAI) was established in July 1982 as a representative body for the European Artificial Intelligence community. Its aim is to promote the study, research, and application of Artificial Intelligence in Europe. The Association is composed of 28 scientific European associations concerned with artificial intelligence. Carles Sierra is currently the president of EurAI.
The focus of the ELLIS unit in Barcelona lies on advancing fundamental research in machine learning and related fields (vision, robotics, natural language processing), and on fostering interdisciplinary research in AI, in particular in the interactions of AI systems with humans and societies – a theme with important repercussions in life sciences and humanities.
The ELLIS Unit Barcelona brings together researchers from nine academic entities: the five major universities of Barcelona, as well as the four public research centers in the region focused on AI.
