We say goodbye to not only a great person and a great friend, we also say goodbye to an outstanding scientist. A scientist that leaves a very significant trace to both the IIIA and the scientific community.
Marc was beloved by everyone and particularly by his PhD students, for he was not only his teacher but also a true friend. All the members of the IIIA-CSIC who had the privilege of seeing him grow as a scientist from the beginning of his thesis are highly proud of his achievements.
Marc has made very significant contributions to AI, recognized by thousands of citations and by international awards, among which we can highlight the most cited article in the journal "Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence" during the 2005-2010 period. In this work, Marc managed to close the formalization and implementation of the electronic institutions model, culminating a research line that has become a world reference in the area of multi-agent systems.
His work was thorough and very solid: when he gave “green light” to a technical aspect of a paper, one could be sure it was correct and forget about it. He published in the best conferences such as IJCAI or AAMAS. He was a team-worker always ready to collaborate with great generosity and devotion. He wrote articles with more than 40 researchers, many of them of the greatest international stature. In the last five years he had started a very promising line of work in the area of 3D electronic institutions by establishing collaborations with UB and Australian researchers. We are convinced that his closest collaborators will miss his ideas but will continue strengthening this line of work to honor Marc's memory.
Marc, our dear friend, now at the IIIA we have to learn to work without your valuable presence. Your remembrance will be with us when trying to keep the level of companionship and excellence to which you have so much contributed. “Sit tibi terra levis."
